Craftsmen at work on a large horse-and-rider marble statue in our yard

Some pieces leave our workshop in a small box. This one needed a crane. We filmed the statue of Raja Balraj Ji Bhil on horseback from the first lift of the block to the last details. Here is how it was made.

1. The block arrives

Large statues start as one solid block of marble. A single block means no joints in the body of the statue, so it stays strong and looks seamless for generations. The block is far too heavy to move by hand, so it is lifted with a crane and set down in the yard where it will be carved.

2. Rough cutting

Before any detail appears, the craftsmen mark out the main shape and cut away the marble that is not needed. This is heavy, dusty work done with cutting machines. It decides the proportions of the whole statue, so it is planned carefully: once marble is cut away, it cannot be put back.

3. The horse and rider appear

Slowly, the block becomes a horse, and the rider takes shape on its back. Our craftsmen work around the statue from every side, checking it from a distance again and again so the horse stands in balance and the rider sits naturally.

4. Faces, hands and fine details

The last stage takes the most patience: the rider's face and turban, the hands, the horse's head and legs. Smaller tools are used here, and much of this work is done by hand. These details give the statue its character, so they are not rushed.

In the news

The statue was reported in the Bhilwara edition of Patrika. For our team, the best part is seeing a piece we carved become a place where people gather and remember.
